In Sardinia there is a parable that goes something like this;

When people in the village grew older and started becoming a burden on society, the practice was to push them off a cliff to their deaths. However, one man did not have the heart to adhere to this practice and instead chose to hide his aging father in his house.

This very same man eventually became the most wealthy and influential person in the entire village. After years of the villagers pestering him about the reason for his wealth, he finally revealed that it was his father's wisdom and experience, which provided him with the means to accumulate his fortune.
