Jester

Do you know the reason the King always had a jester, someone to entertain him? Some say the jester was a truth teller, and this is true to an extent.

Yet, the bigger reason is that the king needed to be entertained, a-mused. Pascal noted "lest the bejeweled potentate brood too much and, perhaps, have an encounter with the soul."

We go to great lengths to avoid looking inside ourselves.
