Like two tracks
Life is in the overlap, my friend Nicholas always says that love and sorrow run like a jeep track in a field, side by side.
This piece in Lord of The Rings grabbed my heart yesterday. It grabbed it because I want life to be different, to be only one track, joy. I want it to be just about love, but it isn’t. Perhaps because it isn’t a single track is the very reason that makes life glorious and meaningful?
“And all the hosts laughed and wept, and in the midst of their merriment and tears the clear voice of the minstrel rose like silver and gold, and all the men were hushed” And the minstrel sang to them, and he kept singing, “until their hearts, wounded with sweet words, overflowed, and their joy was like swords, and they passed in thought to regions where pain and delight flow together and tears are the very wine of blessedness” Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings.
Get skin in the game, follow both tracks.
