What do you hire for?

Here's a frustrating conversation I have every so often when we've needed to hire someone.

Their specific skill isn't nearly as important as the type of person they are (unless you are hiring a neurosurgeon of course).

The need for skills change, right now a university degree has a life span of around 3-5 years before it is largely irrelevant.

If I hire you, I want to know if you can adapt, if you can think critically, if you are kind, and if you can move into action.

Most skills can be learnt on the job, but character, wisdom, and attitude?

Careful what you hire for.
