‘Don’t show me your mission statement, show me your story.’ A friend of mine, Len Sweet, has a great disdain for mission statements that live only on walls and in brochures. 

He prefers a story.  

Stories capture attention and imagination. What is the metaphor for your organisation, what is your mission story?  

For example, at the previous church I worked at we used one of the stories in the gospels as our mission story. The one about the 4 friends carrying their paralyzed friend to get healed, ‘cause sometimes you are the one on the stretcher and other times you are the one doing the heavy lifting.
