Teacher

There aren’t many labels that I would place on myself,

Right, left, liberal, conservative, religious, spiritual, Mac, or Android, there are plenty of labels floating around, and just as many brands want theirs on your chest and in your heart.

I am wary of labels and the boxes they could place us in.

One label that I would put on though, is teacher.

A teacher is different from a mentor or coach. A teacher collects, curates, translates, and instills knowledge and skills. And a teacher isn’t, necessarily, a practitioner. In fact, most of the best teachers aren’t, my high school English teacher has never written a book or a poem, but she made me fall in love with writing.

I’m curious, what is a label that you would place on yourself and what would you avoid?

Definitions and boundaries are helpful if they serve to focus value, energy, and commitment.
