To be seen
There is a great line in an old Afrikaans play, 'Siener in die Suburbs' (Seer in the suburbs) where the daughter, Tiemie (Pronounced: Tee Mee) tells her mother, in a desperate voice,
"Ek wil van geweet wees ma, ek wil nie vrek soos ek 'n hond nie, ek wil van geweet wees"
"I want to be known Mom, I don't want to die like a dog, I want to be known."
Her desire to escape their poverty and suffering and to be known, noticed, recognised and seen is one we all can resonate with no matter our status.
To be seen is our biggest desire, when we are truly seen and acknowledged for who we truly are, celebrated, we blossom and grow. This same desire is often also our biggest pitfall, we will ironically do anything to be seen, to be known, even alter who we are in order to be noticed.
Two things, one, pay attention to those you love, it will mean the world to them.
Two, don't scramble to be noticed by those who do not love you, it will ruin you.
