Keep the bar low
Which new habit do you want to start?
Often when I sit with people they tell me they want to start meditating, or start exercising and dieting, or some other healthy daily habit.
The conversation usually goes something like this, I want to get healthy, so I'm going to go the gym 6 days a week and do a keto diet and do intermittent fasting and...
We tend to set the bar impossibly high, do it for two or three days and then get lost in a mountain of excuses (or beer and pizza).
I just lower the bar, perhaps just go for a walk around the block everyday? Perhaps just sit in silence for 5 min each day, not go on a 10 day silent retreat (I know someone that did this, and cracked after day 3).
Once the habit has formed, two or three weeks in, then add more.
